1982

Foundation of Schäfer + Peters GmbH

The owners and managing directors Gerhard Schäfer and Helmut Peters founded the company Schäfer + Peters GmbH (S+P for short) together in 1982. The decision to focus on stainless steel fasteners was made quickly. The first business activities began in July 1982 on Uhlandstraße in Öhringen. Long-standing know-how and a shared team spirit were the cornerstones of the successful business model.

1986

Relocation to Stettiner Straße

Due to the strong expansion of the product range, the need for additional storage capacity arose. S+P therefore relocated with 20 employees to a building near the company on Stettiner Straße in Öhringen. The growth in turnover was accompanied by an increased need for qualified staff. That is why S+P focused on training very early on, in order to train specialists in a targeted way who can meet the challenges of the trade. Even today, training the younger generation is a priority for the company.

1989

1st exhibition at the International Hardware Fair

S+P's success factors include personal contact and professional customer support right from the start. That is why S+P exhibited for the first time in 1989 at the International Hardware Fair in Cologne. The company quickly became one of the leading names for stainless steel fasteners. Even today, S+P is present at the industry's largest trade fairs.

1992

New construction and relocation to Zeilbaumweg

In order to secure the company's growth and to meet increasing customer orders, the company expanded continuously. In 1991, the new Schäfer + Peters GmbH building was completed. Since 1992, it has been the headquarters of what became the world market leader in the wholesale of stainless steel fasteners.

1996

Certification according to ISO 9001:1994

By obtaining ISO 9001:1994 certification in 1996, S+P proved that the company's internal procedures and processes met international quality management standards. As part of this successful implementation, S+P established a company-wide quality management process, so that not only are our products continuously inspected, but all processes and standards are continuously optimised.

1997

Extension – 200% enlargement of the warehouse

Step by step, the company expanded its site. In 1997, the first extension enlarged the warehouse by 200%. In addition to a 14-metre-high high-bay warehouse, the most modern techniques were installed, which improved processing time within logistics and ensured fast delivery to customers.

2001

Launch of e-commerce

As part of digitalisation, S+P launched the e-business division in 2001. The introduction of an online shop gave customers worldwide access to the extensive product range 24/7. In 2004, the first electronic exchange of business documents took place via EDI, which sped up and simplified the ordering process.

2007

2nd extension – storage and administration building

Ten years after the first expansion, the operating building was enlarged with a modern administrative building and a further warehouse extension. In 2010 and 2017, further conversion measures followed, such as the installation of a storage mezzanine and the introduction of a warehouse for long goods.

Today, the S+P warehouse offers more than 60,000 pallet and bin locations over an area of around 12,000 m² and is the largest warehouse in Europe for stainless steel fasteners. Thanks to its large storage capacity and its collaboration with reliable logistics partners, the company guarantees high availability and very short delivery times - not only in Germany, but worldwide.

2008

Introduction of paperless order picking

S+P is known on the market for the fast dynamics of its range, the diversity of its products and its reliability. Thanks to a state-of-the-art storage system, paperless order picking was introduced in 2008. In addition to an increase in productivity within logistics, the new terminals made it possible to save resources while contributing to environmental protection.

2014

Green electricity with photovoltaics

Sustainable management is one of S+P's values. That is why the company focused on renewable energies very early on and installed a self-consumption photovoltaic system in 2014. This green electricity enables S+P to cover a large part of its energy consumption.

2018

Certification Dualis

S+P stands for a reliable, future-oriented training company. The aim is to train young, qualified professionals in various occupations and to integrate them into the company in the long term. In 2018, S+P was awarded the Dualis seal for the first time for the high quality of its training. In 2022, it was successfully re-audited.

2022

We have good reason to celebrate - S+P is celebrating its 40th anniversary!

Today, S+P has established itself worldwide as the market leader for stainless steel fasteners. In addition to the values of customer loyalty, quality, service and adherence to delivery deadlines, team spirit is at the forefront at S+P. Today, the company employs more than 270 people at its Öhringen site. The employees' long-standing know-how contributes decisively to the company's success.
